What people are saying!

I told you when we first met that it is powerful and EVERYONE needs this training and I still stand by that statement today!

You two hit it out of the Park! I came to the “improv ice breatker” out of a sense of obligation. WoW! Honestly one of the best times and learning I have had in awhile. You obviously know your audience and you both have my admiration!!!

That is great Eric! I’ve heard nothing but positive comments even from some of our toughest critics. Really appreciate you being here and the effort you both put into this.

"This group has seriously been life changing for me. The last year has been the most difficult of my life, but this group has really helped pull me out of a rough patch. I can honestly say I'm thankful for where I am today and how I got here. The present is a great place to be and I wouldn't trade it for anything." #RESILIENCE #JOY #COLLABORATION #PRESENT #MINDFULNESS #HUMOR

IMPROV and being Present

Improv in theory, is a space free of judgment or fear of failure, making it an ideal environment for people who struggle with low self-esteem, social anxiety, or other types of anxiety disorders.

Social anxiety is all about inhibition and self-censorship, and Improv helps by flipping that around.  In Improv you are actively engaged in addressing anxiety and fear by being in front of people and employing mindfulness, open and honest communications built on trust and respect.  Improv is a cooperative form that relies on trust for the spark of creativity that can move us to, even if briefly, confidence-building interpersonal connections.

While not a substitute for therapy, some psychologists believe improv can be an effective complement, in part because of the way it mirrors the patient/therapist dynamic.  In 2013, Gordon Bermant, a psychology professor at the University of Pennsylvania, published a paper in the journal Frontiers in Psychology that outlined the similarities between improv and applied psychology, or the use of psychological research to solve real-world problems.

“Both improv and applied psychology practices are utilized to increase personal awareness, interpersonal attentiveness, and trust,” he wrote.

Meaning is at the core of the creative process and of storytelling. It is both the goal and the attribute. When it is our own life story we are telling a story from our lives, we become aware that we are not the victims of random and chaotic circumstances, that we, too, despite our grief or feelings of insignificance, are living meaningfully in a meaningful universe. And, again, the response to our own story , as well as to the stories of others, is Yes, Yes, I have a story. Yes, I Exist! - Deena Metzger
